About Us

As Marge Colborn, Design Editor of the Homestyle section of The Detroit News wrote:
"Local talent Steven Goodman concentrates on the details.  The hardware on a piece
of furniture can make an emphatic design statement."

Our product line has evolved over the years.

What began as a jewelry studio is now an artistic venture into products for the home and office.  We design and handcraft the most unusual signs, mailboxes, wall cabinets,  hardware and works of art that you have ever seen.

We specialize in one-of-a-kind:

bulletHandcrafted Office Signs (Name Plaques) - for desk or wall, the perfect gift for any business person. Also excellent incentives and awards for corporate programs.
bulletHandcrafted Address Signs - that will distinguish any home
bulletHandcrafted "Jewelry for Furniture" -  hardware that will beautifully accessorize any furniture or door
bulletBoxes - Mailboxes, Wall Cabinets or "tabletop" boxes with lids
bulletWorks of Art - Special pieces, some functional, some purely to look at, touch, and enjoy

When I was a jeweler, I used natural, exotic materials, loving the beauty and warmth that hardwoods, minerals and metals brought to jewelry.  As beautiful as these materials were, it was difficult to appreciate them in such small pieces.

I have utilized these wonderful materials in my new work and am thrilled with the results.  The colors and textures are absolutely beautiful in these larger pieces.

A "signature" material that I use is fossilized ivory, which is the tusk of mastodon, mammoth and walrus that is thousands of years old.  It is excavated by Eskimos in Alaska during the warm summer months when the ground has thawed.  Each summer Eskimo families leave their villages and go to their summer camps along the Bering sea coast.  At the summer camps the Eskimos hunt, fish and dig for the ivory tusks, tools and artifacts that their ancestors left behind thousands of years ago.  These ancient ivory tusks and artifacts acquire beautiful colorations ranging from delicate gold to warm chocolate browns, orange, occasionally pink or gray as well as a rare splash of blue or green.  The colors are due to the minerals in the soil seeping into the ivory.  Mineralized ivory would actually be a more accurate description than fossilized ivory, as complete fossilization would require longer burial and would result in ivory very difficult to cut or carve.  This ancient ivory is unique, very beautiful and becoming scarce as the supply is non-renewable.

I also utilize exotic and domestic hardwoods, minerals like turquoise, pipestone, blue azurite and jet, shells like abalone and mother of pearl and metals - and create truly distinctive pieces of art.
